The recognition of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) in animals has raised the concern over their role as potential reservoirs or vectors for human MRSA infection. The aim of our study was to investigate the presence of MRSA in S. aureus strains isolated from horses admitted to the Veterinary Hospital of Lodi. A total of 31 animals were tested and 3 were found positive for S. aureus. One sample was positive for MRSA. Interestingly, the same horse carried MRSA and MSSA in nostrils. The MRSA isolate was identified as clonal complex 398.
