The paper discuss different use of technology in the fieldwork in Southeaster Europe, stargin from the landmark research of Milman Parry and Albert Lord. Moreover, it discuss more recent use of technologies in film making related to the issue of identity, especially in the work of the Bulgarian filmmaker Adela Peeva (the famous movie Whose is this song?) and the Italian Rossella Schillaci (the movie Vjesh/Canto).
