This work aims at the phenotipical characterization of some quality traits in three peach progenies from controlled crosses, to be possibly associated with any molecular marker for future assisted selection work (MAS). An high degree of variability was found within progeny and between the two seasons of observations. As predicted, seedlings shown a great degree of variability for ripening time in all three populations. Overcolour and firmness appeared to be positively influenced by the abundant rainfall of 2002, while the opposite happened to TSS, with the ecception of ‘Spring Red’ x ‘Big Top’ population: it escaped the heavy rains due to its narrow ripening season. In order to minimize those effects (due to climate and operator), new methods for reliable determination of quality traits should be developed, possibly useful for MAS.

Abstract
In order to minimize those effects (due to climate and operator), new methods for reliable determination of quality traits should be developed, possibly useful for MAS.Pubblicazioni consigliate
