Federico Chabod, who was born in 1901 and died prematurely in 1960, was undoubtedly a prominent historian. He examined some aspects of the Renaissance and the Signorie, but also analysed the foreign relations of Italy after the unification of the Peninsuk With the book Storia della politica estera italiana dal 1870 al 1896. Le Premesse, published in 1951, he gave a masterly example of his historiographical research methods. He wanted to give us, in reality, a portrait of the Italian society and its ruling class between 1870 and 1896. The purpose of this article is to open a reflection on the teachings of Chabod.
