In this presentation we would like to show the results of a recent research about identifications and consumptions of young people with immigrant origins in Milan. The aim of the research was to look into the processes whereby both collective identifications and consumption styles or tastes are constructed in a complex and varied way among the children of immigrants. This allows them to use identifications and cultural references in a more flexible and blurred way even if socio-economic background and family’s cultural capital can influence their choices.

Abstract

In this presentation we would like to show the results of a recent research about identifications and consumptions of young people with immigrant origins in Milan. The aim of the research was to look into the processes whereby both collective identifications and consumption styles or tastes are constructed in a complex and varied way among the children of immigrants. This allows them to use identifications and cultural references in a more flexible and blurred way even if socio-economic background and family’s cultural capital can influence their choices.
