Hyperphosphatemia has a key role in the progression of kidney disease. It leads to secondary hyperparathyroidism and affects erythropoiesis in patients with CKD. In human medicine, high serum phosphorus levels are significantly associated with vascular calcification and increase of morbidity and mortality. Hence, oral phosphate binders become fundamental therapeutic aids. Among them, a free calcium and alluminum molecula, lanthanum carbonate, has been recently introduced also in veterinary medicine.

Abstract
Hyperphosphatemia has a key role in the progression of kidney disease. It leads to secondary hyperparathyroidism and affects erythropoiesis in patients with CKD. In human medicine, high serum phosphorus levels are significantly associated with vascular calcification and increase of morbidity and mortality. Hence, oral phosphate binders become fundamental therapeutic aids. Among them, a free calcium and alluminum molecula, lanthanum carbonate, has been recently introduced also in veterinary medicine.Pubblicazioni consigliate
