The official acknowledgement of the local endangered goat Pezzata Mòchena/Pletzet goes van der Bernstol was carried out recently, about an year ago, thanks to the province of Trento that acted studies on this local population promptly. The main breeding location is Fersina valley (also known as Mocheni valley) and near areas of Pinè and Pergine (Valsugana – Eastern Trentino). From a morphological point of view the Pezzata Mochena goat shows the typical external characters of Alpine type: small erect and in ahead ears, rectilinear front-nasal profile, horns nearly always present of the type to sabre and to behind, no color patterns but various shadings or combinations, fleece of variable length generally long-haired. The constitution turns out sturdy, adapted to a pastoral-rural breeding system. The National Herd Book managed by the National Sheep Association (AssoNaPa, Rome) was established in March 2005; the breeders have begun to record their animals immediately after thanks to the technical meeting of presentation of the Mochena Goat promoted from the Province of Trento in the same month (March 2005) to the Cultural Institute Mocheno Cimbro sites in Palù del Fersina. The actual amount of recorded animals is about an hundred distributed in 15 stables; the consolidation of the numerical consistency is therefore one of the main priorities.
