The rapid proliferation of blockchain-based systems frequently necessitates a decision to replace configurable private blockchains with more secure, scalable, and decentralized blockchains. In the case of healthcare data, ensuring privacy is very challenging due to strict data policies and regulations. Private blockchain solutions are emerging due to their transparency, immutability, and customization features. A consortium-based permissioned blockchain is an optimal solution to provide the security of healthcare data. However, ensuring privacy and scalability is important and challenging as well. For scalability, different Layer-2 blockchain approaches have been discussed. In this article, we compare two layer-2 blockchain approaches (ZK-Rollups and zk-state channels) in terms of throughput, latency, complexity, and manageability for a healthcare data sharing model.
