This paper reads the severed head in Giovanni Testori’s work as an obsessive metaphor that deeply structures his imagination. More than a simple iconographic motif, it condenses a crucial cluster of tensions — eros and death, the sacred and violence, desire and annihilation — and becomes the site where body, language, and representation converge. In dialogue with psychoanalysis, obsessive metaphor theory, and antisocial queer theory, the article shows how this figure acquires both an aesthetic and a meta-artistic function in Testori’s oeuvre: a figure of desire, and a limit-form through which the author interrogates the very possibility of expression and figuration.
