Chinese terminology related to HIV/AIDS reflects the evolving linguistic and social construction of the disease, from early stigmatizing labels such as 爱之病 (‘love disease’), 爱死病 (‘deadly love disease’), and 爱滋病 (‘disease transmitted by love’) to the later neutral term 艾滋病. Yet how stigma endures through formulaic language in medical discourse remains underexplored. This study adopts a corpus-based approach to analyse HIV/AIDS-related collocations in Chinese online medical communication. A purpose-built corpus of popular-science texts and online medical consultations retrieved from the digital medical platform Dingxiang Doctor was compiled and analysed using Sketch Engine. Through an integrated quantitative-qualitative approach, the study reveals recurrent semantic and syntactic patterns illustrating how formulaicity shapes the construction of HIV / AIDS-related stigma in Chinese online healthcare platforms.
