The “pacifist principle” is a fundamental principle of both the Italian and Japanese Constitutions. This book explores the evolution of the debate on the scope and meaning of the Italian and Japanese constitutional “pacifist clauses” that was generated by the war in Ukraine, by adopting an interdisciplinary perspective spanning across different social sciences and, more precisely, Japanese history, Italian history, Italian public and constitutional law, Japanese public and constitutional law, political philosophy, political science, and comparative law.
