Pneumonia continues to pose a significant global public health challenge. While the incidence and mortality of lower respiratory tract infections have declined over recent decades, pneumonia remains a leading cause of death worldwide, accounting for over 2 million fatalities in 2021. This article examines global disparities in pneumonia epidemiology, focusing on trends in incidence and mortality, the role of risk and preventive factors, and the complexities introduced by microbiological dynamics and antibiotic resistance. Addressing these elements is essential for devising targeted strategies to reduce the global burden of pneumonia and enhance public health outcomes.

Abstract
Pneumonia continues to pose a significant global public health challenge. While the incidence and mortality of lower respiratory tract infections have declined over recent decades, pneumonia remains a leading cause of death worldwide, accounting for over 2 million fatalities in 2021. This article examines global disparities in pneumonia epidemiology, focusing on trends in incidence and mortality, the role of risk and preventive factors, and the complexities introduced by microbiological dynamics and antibiotic resistance. Addressing these elements is essential for devising targeted strategies to reduce the global burden of pneumonia and enhance public health outcomes.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
