Symposion 2024

This volume contains the proceedings of the 24th Symposion of the International Society for Greek and Hellenistic Legal History / Internationale Gesellschaft für griechische und hellenistische Rechtsgeschichte, held at the University of Milan from 2 to 4 September 2024. It comprises fifteen papers and fourteen ‘responses’ on a wide range of topics relating to public and private law, through the study of new documents and the re-examination of others long since known. The aim, like in the other volumes of the Symposion series, is to present the most recent findings and perspectives of research in the field of Greek and Hellenistic law. Despite the remarkable thematic variety, there remains at the same time a fundamental coherence in content, methods and approaches. The key themes that run through the twenty-nine contributions include: law, legal culture and society; Greek law in the Archaic period; contracts and obligations; the law of Cretan cities; and the institutions of Greek cities in the Hellenistic period. The volume is supplemented by an analytical index of the sources cited and discussed.

Il volume pubblica gli atti del XXIV Symposion della Società Internazionale di Storia del Diritto greco ed ellenistico / Internationale Gesellschaft für griechische und hellenistische Rechtsgeschichte tenutosi all’Università degli Studi di Milano nei giorni 2-4 settembre 2024. Esso comprende 15 relazioni e 14 “risposte” su una pluralità di argomenti attinenti al diritto pubblico e privato, attraverso lo studio di nuovi documenti e la rilettura di altri già da tempo noti. L’obiettivo, come negli altri volumi della serie dei Symposia, è quello di presentare i risultati e le prospettive più recenti delle ricerche nell’ambito del diritto greco ed ellenistico. Al di là della notevole varietà tematica, rimane nello stesso tempo una coerenza di fondo nei contenuti, nei metodi e negli approcci. Tra i nuclei tematici portanti che uniscono, come un filo sottile, i ventinove contributi: diritto, cultura giuridica e società; il diritto greco di età arcaica; il contratto e le obbligazioni; il diritto delle città cretesi; le istituzioni delle città greche in età ellenistica. Il volume è completato da un indice analitico delle fonti citate e discusse.
