This chapter aims to examine the models and instruments of participatory and deliberative democracy in Italy and the extent to which they are institutionalised. This will take into account regional laws on participation and a number of national ‘framework’ bills presented in recent years. Drawing on the most successful comparative experiences, we will attempt to identify the main models adopted and the innovations proposed.
