This contribution offers an overview of current regulatory efforts concerning neurotechnologies and of their potential consequences. Firstly, it broadly considers the current state of neurotechnology regulations. Furthermore, it reflects on how the advanced proposals relate to the process of institutional change. In doing this, it hypothesises which countries might emerge as leaders in the establishment of a regulation, and the risks potentially tied to it. Finally, it explores the features that a regulation on neurotechnology could have and considers the economic impact that these different strategies of regulations can have.
