This chapter discusses how ideology manifests in the workplace. In particular, it focuses on how ideology becomes internalized by individuals at work. Using psychanalytic perspectives, ideology is explained to function as a fantasy structuring reality. Based on an analysis of how neoliberal ideology influences work and careers, we show the fantasmatic structure of ideology. Moreover, the chapter highlights how emotional investment of workers into ideology cause them to adopt a fantasy of normality. The chapter finishes with laying out future research possibilities for more dignified workplaces.
