This paper engages with the knowledge-first, dispositional account proposed by Simion (2023), which conceptualises disinformation as ignorance generating content (DIGC). In the first part of the paper, I outline the central features of the account, before raising several concerns that challenge its explanatory adequacy. In particular, the main claim of this paper is that the DIGC account over-generates disinformation and that this problem results from its attempt to define disinformation independently of non-epistemic aspects, particularly considerations regarding the intentions of those who create and disseminate false or misleading content. Finally, I address potential objections and conclude that, although Simion’s proposal is both original and promising, its current formulation leads to problematic implications.
