Il frammento di Norimberga nella tradizione manoscritta delle "Enfances Godefroi"

The article examines a fragment of the Enfances Godefroi (EG), a branch of the Old French Crusade Cycle. The fragment, lost for nearly two centuries, was recently rediscovered at the Germanisches Nationalmuseum in Nuremberg. The study analyzes its codicological, paleographical, and linguistic features, drawing important conclusions. The fragment appears to date from the mid-thirteenth century, and its language exhibits features traceable to the northeastern area of the Oïl domain. Crucially, it preserves the English episode with Godefroy as protagonist, confirming its presence in β, hitherto testified by only one manuscript. This rediscovery not only enriches the manuscript tradition of EG but also consolidates the existence and scope of recension β, which entails the need to revise the text’s stemma.
