This article explores the role of characters in stories as a key to understanding the origins of human language, conceived in its narrative and persuasive nature. It analyzes how characters, through the emotional engagement they evoke, exert a persuasive power essential to the functioning of stories and, consequently, language. The proposed perspective integrates cognitive sciences and Literary Cognitive Studies, combining cognitive and socio-cultural models to highlight how the human ability to create and connect with fictional characters sheds light on the deep connection between storytelling, emotion, and communication.
