Khaemhat’s tomb contains a long text, generally identified as an Appeal to visitors, of which a facsimile made by a draftsman named Jacquemin and a paper squeeze are preserved at the University of Milan. However, this text, which has never enjoyed extensive study, is much more than a simple Appeal to visitors and contains within it Khaemhat’s self-praise and a prayer to the sun, moon and various deities to be favourable to the deceased. It also draws a portrait of Khaemhat’s pietas and could therefore be called his epitaph. In this essay, in addition to the edition of the text, a translation and the first commentary is provided.

Abstract
Khaemhat’s tomb contains a long text, generally identified as an Appeal to visitors, of which a facsimile made by a draftsman named Jacquemin and a paper squeeze are preserved at the University of Milan. However, this text, which has never enjoyed extensive study, is much more than a simple Appeal to visitors and contains within it Khaemhat’s self-praise and a prayer to the sun, moon and various deities to be favourable to the deceased. It also draws a portrait of Khaemhat’s pietas and could therefore be called his epitaph. In this essay, in addition to the edition of the text, a translation and the first commentary is provided.Pubblicazioni consigliate
