«Et placuit denarium pro X libris aeris valere»: crisi e reazioni monetarie durante la seconda Guerra punica

The Second Punic War represented for the 3rd century BC Rome not only a brutal conflict with a foreign power, but also the worst financial crisis the city had ever experienced. Nonetheless, this crisis also affected the production of money and offered the city the opportunity to create the first fully Roman monetary system in its history.

La seconda Guerra punica rappresentò per la Roma di III sec. a.C. non solo un temibile confronto con una potenza straniera, ma anche la più profonda e lacerante crisi finanziaria che mai avesse conosciuto. Tale crisi si ripercosse anche nel mondo ancora recente della produzione monetale, offrendo alla città la possibilità di creare il primo sistema monetario totalmente romano della sua storia.
