Nikephoros Gregoras' Life of Theophano is a text that has yet to be thoroughly examined from a political perspective. The aim of this paper is to contextualise Gregoras' hagiographic work within the system of political and personal relations of his time, proposing an interpretation, a patronage and a possible date for the work.
