The paper analyzes, from a political ecology perspective, the biofuel production program promoted by ENI in Kenya, using the theoretical framework of energy colonialism. In particular, three dimensions of colonialism are highlighted: colonial territorialization, colonialism as a long-term historical phase, and imperialism. The analysis shows that the concept of energy colonialism is useful in interpreting this case and more generally the distributive issues associated with the energy transition process. However, it is necessary to interpret the different forms in which the dynamics of dispossession, disciplining of bodies, and physical and epistemic violence typical to colonialism are reproduced.

Abstract
The paper analyzes, from a political ecology perspective, the biofuel production program promoted by ENI in Kenya, using the theoretical framework of energy colonialism. In particular, three dimensions of colonialism are highlighted: colonial territorialization, colonialism as a long-term historical phase, and imperialism. The analysis shows that the concept of energy colonialism is useful in interpreting this case and more generally the distributive issues associated with the energy transition process. However, it is necessary to interpret the different forms in which the dynamics of dispossession, disciplining of bodies, and physical and epistemic violence typical to colonialism are reproduced.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
