Population ageing, a rapidly expanding and globally widespread phenomenon, manifests with varying intensity and patterns across territories, generating new social and demographic geographies. The nineteen articles collected in this thematic issue offer a broad and comprehensive overview of the interactions between population and territory, examining ageing from multiple perspectives and across different territorial and spatial scales, ranging from the European to the Italian context. Despite their methodological and thematic diversity, the contributions interweave to form a multifaceted narrative on the challenges and opportunities associated with ageing and its territorial implications.

Abstract

Population ageing, a rapidly expanding and globally widespread phenomenon, manifests with varying intensity and patterns across territories, generating new social and demographic geographies. The nineteen articles collected in this thematic issue offer a broad and comprehensive overview of the interactions between population and territory, examining ageing from multiple perspectives and across different territorial and spatial scales, ranging from the European to the Italian context. Despite their methodological and thematic diversity, the contributions interweave to form a multifaceted narrative on the challenges and opportunities associated with ageing and its territorial implications.
