This research project focuses on the early exegetical tradition of Theocritus' Idylls, with a detailed examination of most of the papyri which feature traces of commentaries to the poetic text. A key achievement of the project is the creation of comprehensive entries for each papyrus, including critical editions, physical descriptions, and line-by-line analysis. These entries shed light on the relationship between the papyri and the scholia vetera. Furthermore, future studies on the scholia recentiora could offer new insights into the transmission of exegetical texts related to Theocritus’ works, by systematically comparing papyri and scholia. The project also led to the discovery and publication of previously unknown Latin marginalia on the text of Theocritus, written by cardinal Pietro Bembo. These annotations, preserved in a manuscript (Neap. II F 43) copied by Zacharias Calliergis, offer a valuable example of humanistic exegesis and shed new light on the reception of Greek pastoral poetry during the Renaissance.

Abstract
II F 43) copied by Zacharias Calliergis, offer a valuable example of humanistic exegesis and shed new light on the reception of Greek pastoral poetry during the Renaissance.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
