Atene, Delo e Lemno nella sistemazione romana dell’Egeo all’indomani di Pidna

The paper aims to investigate the consequences that the end of the Third Macedonian War had on the relations between Rome and Athens, especially as to the concessions that the Roman senate granted to Athens for the role that the city played in the conflict against Perseus. More specifically, we will focus on the case of Delos, also analyzed in relation to the relations between the island and Rome since the early decades of the second century BC, and on the case of Lemnos. It will therefore be possible to offer some reflections on the structure that Rome gave to the eastern Aegean area after the fall of the Macedonian kingdom.

L’articolo intende indagare le conseguenze che la fine del terzo conflitto macedonico ebbe sui rapporti tra Roma e Atene, in particolare riferimento alle concessioni che il senato di Roma riconobbe in favore di Atene per il ruolo che quest’ultima rivestì nella guerra contro Perseo. Più nello specifico, ci si concentrerà sul caso di Delo, analizzato sin a partire dai primi rapporti che l’isola intrattenne con Roma nel secondo secolo a.C. e poi in comparazione con il coevo caso di Lemno. Si giungerà infine a proporre alcune riflessioni relativamente alla struttura che Roma dette all’area dell’Egeo orientale in conseguenza della caduta del regno di Macedonia.
