Time and Cosmology

This chapter deals with the most pressing issues surrounding the notion of time in cosmology. After introducing the discussion with historical remarks, the notion of cosmic time is analyzed within the framework of relativistic cosmology and the ΛCDM model. Then other possible scenarios including the problem of time in quantum cosmology are discussed together with their impact on the philosophy of time. Finally, the current debates on time in cosmology are connected to recent developments in the debates on the foundations of physics, thereby suggesting future perspectives on research questions relevant for different fields including the philosophy of time in general.
