Cenni e luoghi di pietà nei poemi gerosolimitani

Starting from some considerations that emerged during the sixteenth-century debate on "Gerusalemme Liberata", regarding the use of the adjective «pietoso» in the opening verse of Tasso's poem, the contribution, after confirming the coexistence in the text of the form «pio», as requested by the Accademia della Crusca, first analyzes the polysemic nature of «pietas» and reviews the significant poetic passages. It then examines the difference in the use of the two epithets, with the aim of outlining, in reference to the passages where they occur, a writing and revision criterion that might have been applied by the author.

A partire da alcune considerazioni emerse durante la polemica cinquecentesca sulla "Liberata", relative all’uso dell’aggettivo «pietoso» nel verso incipitario dell’opera di Tasso, il contributo, verificata la compresenza nel testo della forma «pio», richiesta dagli Accademici della Crusca, analizza dapprima il carattere polisemico della «pietas» e ripercorre i luoghi poematici significativi in tal senso. Verifica, poi, la differenza di impiego dei due epiteti, con la volontà di delineare in riferimento ai passi in cui essi occorrono, un criterio di scrittura e di revisione eventualmente messo in atto dall’autore.
