In his recent book La teoria dell’identità personale di Parfit e le ragioni degli abortisti Giorgio Maniaci seeks to defend the moral and legal permissibility of abortion up to the 20th week, based on a sophisticated theory of the concept of person. This essay critically analyses Maniaci’s theses, attempting to show that they are insufficiently argued and trying to shed light on the reasons for their lack of persuasiveness.
