The dimensions of evolution. Spaces, times and relationships in a multi-level vortex. The article investigates the philosophical assumptions of the theory of evolution, from the pre-Darwinian transformist conceptions to Darwin’s theory, up to embracing some contemporary conceptions that propose a pluralist and multilevel extension of the standard evolutionary view. The work focuses on the crucial questions of the times and spaces of evolution and shows how they, evolving together with the biologist’s views, transform the objects investigated and the truths formulated.

Abstract

The dimensions of evolution. Spaces, times and relationships in a multi-level vortex. The article investigates the philosophical assumptions of the theory of evolution, from the pre-Darwinian transformist conceptions to Darwin’s theory, up to embracing some contemporary conceptions that propose a pluralist and multilevel extension of the standard evolutionary view. The work focuses on the crucial questions of the times and spaces of evolution and shows how they, evolving together with the biologist’s views, transform the objects investigated and the truths formulated.
