The present invention relates to the discovery of compounds of formula (I), possessing activity as modulators of metabotropic glutamate 6 receptor (mGlu6) whose modulatory activity on the receptor may be controlled by irradiation with suitable light resulting in the optical control of receptor biological function, to pharmaceutical compositions comprising said compounds of formula (I), and to the use of said compounds and pharmaceutical compositions as a medicament, in particular for the treatment and/or prevention of retinitis pigmentosa, and/or for the enhancement of visual performance in healthy subjects.
