After providing a snapshot of the on-demand economy, this paper affords an overview of the impact this economic model will have on the world of work and on the shortcomings and the safeguards required of the workforce en- gaged on the online platforms. The weaknesses of this working scheme are reviewed individually and concern economic security and stability; health and safety at work; reputation systems and access to employment; polarization, access and training; col- lective voice. In the conclusions the paper outlines the possible ways in which a legis- lative action could take place to regulate the on-demand economy, identifying the one which according to the Author would be the most suitable.
