Neotectonics of the southern end of the La Rinconada fault, Eastern Precordillera, province of San Juan. Neotectonics of the eastern piedmont of the Sierra Chica de Zonda range (Eastern Precordillera, 31°47″S -31°55″S) is characterized by west-facing N-S trending scarps and gentle folding affecting the Quanternary alluvial deposits. The reverse west-verging La Rinconada fault is the main neotectonic feature with the most notorious landscape imprint. Fault-related scarps and Quaternary folding with less geomorphic expression are distributed across a ∼ 8 km-wide belt parallel to this main structure, where pre-Quaternary rocks crop-out. These structures are controlled by the bedding attitude of previously deformed underlying strata. The La Rinconada fault exposes Paleozoic strata in its hanging wall, which allow us to speculate about the detachment depth and the seismogenic potencial of this structure.

Abstract
The La Rinconada fault exposes Paleozoic strata in its hanging wall, which allow us to speculate about the detachment depth and the seismogenic potencial of this structure.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
