Life Orientation Test-Revised (LOT-R) bidimensionale

The Life Orientation Test-Revised (LOT-R), the abbreviated form of the LOT, is the most commonly used instrument for the assessment of optimism. The common use of the instrument comes in parallel to the on- going scientific debate on its psychometric structure, i.e. the one- or two-dimensional structure of the LOT-R. The present article is part of this debate and reports the results of a study on the psychometric properties of the instrument, i.e., construct validity and concurrent validity (correlations with the Self-Esteem Scale and the Satisfaction with Life Scale). The results of confirmatory factor analysis support the two-dimensional structure of the LOT-R. Furthermore, the single factors of optimism and pessimism show adequate levels of reliability and statistically significant correlations at concurrent validity analysis.

Tra gli strumenti più utilizzati per la valutazione dell’ottimismo troviamo il Life Orientation Test-Revised (LOT-R), forma abbreviata del LOT. All’uso comune e applicativo di questo strumento si affianca un dibattito scientifico sulla struttura psicometrica dello stesso, ovvero sul carattere unidimensionale o bidimensionale del LOT-R. Il presente articolo si inserisce all’interno di questo dibattito e riporta i risultati di uno studio sulle proprietà psicometriche dello strumento, in termini sia di validità di costrutto che di validità concorrente (correlazioni con la Scala di Autovalutazione dell’Autostima di Rosenberg e la Satisfaction With Life Scale di Diener e colleghi). I risultati delle Analisi Fattoriali Confermative depongono a favore sia del carattere unidimensionale che bidimensionale del LOT-R. Inoltre, sia il fattore unico che i singoli fattori mostrano adeguati livelli di affidabilità e correlazioni statisticamente significative all’analisi di validità concorrente.
