Many risk factors seem to be associated with the development and progression of diabetic neuropathy (DN) in diabetic patients. Among them, genetic risk factors can play a major role. This chapter reports data available in the literature on genes potentially implicated in the onset and/or progression of DN in diabetes. The potential mechanisms by which genes may promote neural damage are reported. In addition, clinical implications of the association between genetic risk factors and DN are discussed.
