Sexual function depends on complex and multidimensional processes controlled and coordinated by psychological, neurological, endocrine and vascular systems both in men and in women. This implies that disruption to one or more of these systems can lead to sexual dysfunction. Physical exercise can positively act on all these systems. Thus, physical inactivity can be a risk factor for the development of sexual dysfunction as well as a regular physical activity can represent an effective adjunct treatment of sexual disorders in both genders.

Abstract

Sexual function depends on complex and multidimensional processes controlled and coordinated by psychological, neurological, endocrine and vascular systems both in men and in women. This implies that disruption to one or more of these systems can lead to sexual dysfunction. Physical exercise can positively act on all these systems. Thus, physical inactivity can be a risk factor for the development of sexual dysfunction as well as a regular physical activity can represent an effective adjunct treatment of sexual disorders in both genders.
