Sulla tradizione manoscritta dei Deipnosofisti di Ateneo (redazione plenior) fra Quattro e Cinquecento

The neglected MS in two volumes Ambr. L 118 sup. + D 106 sup. is recognised as having played a key role in the transmission of the ‘Deipnosophistae’ during the humanistic period. Among the ‘recentiores’ it is the only one to have been copied directly from the early Marc. gr. 447, and it is the source of the remaining tradition. It was produced in Venice between 1470 and 1482, probably for Giorgio Merula, and then taken to Milan; it was the exemplar for Ermolao Barbaro’s codex (D), for Holkham. gr. 104 copied by Sebastiano Ducci (F), and for a lost copy λ which was an ancestor of the Aldine edition and three Venetian codices from the first decade of the 16th century (Q, M, P). The composite MS Laur. plut. 60.01 (B) derives from D, perhaps via a lost intermediary β which had been collated with the epitome. The relation between Q and M is complex, but it is suggested that M derives from Q.

Nella trasmissione testuale dei Deipnosofisti in età umanistica si riconosce il ruolo chiave del negletto ms. in due tomi Ambr. L 118 sup. + D 106 sup., l’unico fra i recentiores a essere stato esemplato direttamente sull’antico Marc. gr. Z. 447 e capostipite della restante filiazione. Prodotto a Venezia tra il 1470 e il 1482 probabilmente per Giorgio Merula e successivamente portato a Milano, l’Ambrosiano fu modello del ms. di Ermolao Barbaro (D), del ms. Holkham. gr. 104 vergato da Sebastiano Ducci (F) e di un perduto esemplare λ, antenato dell’Aldina e di tre codici veneti del primo decennio del Cinquecento (Q, M e P). Si dimostra la dipendenza del composito ms. Laur. plut. 60.01 (B) da D, con una proposta di derivazione attraverso un perduto esemplare intermedio β collazionato con l’Epitome; per il complesso rapporto fra Q e M si ipotizza la derivazione del secondo dal primo.
