Introduzione

This volume constitutes the first publication of the Centre for visuaL hIs- tOry (CLIO), set up in 2023 at the Department of Historical Studies ‘Federico Chabod’ of the University of Milan in the context of the project ‘IMAGINeS: Images and History’, financed by the MUR’s Departments of Excellence pro- gramme for the period 2023-2027. The essays collected here represent a signifi- cant contribution to the advancement of studies on visual culture from a histor- ical perspective, in constant dialogue with the most innovative methodological and theoretical instances.

Il volume costituisce la prima pubblicazione del Centre for visuaL hIstOry (CLIO), istituito nel 2023 presso il Dipartimento di Studi storici ‘Federico Chabod’ dell’Università degli Studi di Milano nel contesto del progetto “IMAGINeS: Immagini e Storia”, finanziato dal programma Dipartimenti di ec- cellenza del MUR per il periodo 2023-2027. I saggi qui raccolti rappresentano un contributo significativo all’avanzamento degli studi sulla cultura visuale in prospettiva storica, in dialogo costante con le più innovative istanze metodolo- giche e teoriche.
