Two rescripts on inheritance matters, preserved under different titles in the Justinian Codex, C.6.36.2 and C. 6.58.3, have the peculiarity of being both addressed to a woman named Asclepiodota. The contribution examines the question of the possible identity of the two addressees in the light of their temporal proximity and the rarity of the addressee's name in the Latin sources, while dwelling on the complex historical framework of the mid-3rd century in which the two hereditary disputes are set.
