Conclusions : Admission and integration. Possible ways forward

This conclusive chapter complements the analyses presented in the previous chapters around three aspects: 1) the meaning of the new EU Pact on migration and asylum (COM/2020/609 final) with respect to the reception of refugees; 2) the perspective of multilevel governance applied to asylum policies; 3) the role of non-governmental actors and humanitarian action in this matter. The European institutions are called upon to assert a policy of reception and integration of refugees that is up to the founding values of the EU. The link between admission and integration of refugees explored in this book requires a fundamental premise: allowing asylum seekers to access EU territory and present their reasons.
