During the archaeological investigation at Aliawa in the Erbil Plain (Kurdistan Region of Iraq) carried out by the Italian expedition of the University of Milan, a hematite scale weight was found on the floor level of a monumental building dated to the late 3rd millennium BC. The contribution discusses this new evidence in comparison with the materials from Tepe Gawra and other sites in Northern Mesopotamia, showing the widespread presence of the Mesopotamian system, possibly as a result of the Akkadian expansionism in the region.
