Potere e cultura nella Milano napoleonica. La Stamperia reale e le politiche di controllo editoriale (1805-1814)

The essay aims to investigate the measures implemented by the State in the control of the publishing industry in Italy during the Napoleonic years. Usually observed through the censorship, the surveillance of the State over the world of the press was also expressed in other forms. Here we examine first the case of the Direzione generale di stampa e libreria and then that of the Stamperia Reale, the latter established to issue bulletins of laws and other official documents, but destined in the long run to influence various aspects of the scientific and cultural life of the new State, through the printing of works by the leading intellectuals of the time. The Stamperia soon proved to be both the best means of entering the traditional world of Milanese printers and one of the most effective cultural instruments of the Napoleonic State.

Il contributo intende investigare lo sviluppo delle politiche statali di controllo editoriale messe a punto in Italia negli anni napoleonici. Solitamente osservata attraverso il prisma della censura, la sorveglianza dello Stato sul mondo della stampa si esplicitò anche in altre forme. Sono qui presi in esame dapprima il caso della Direzione generale di stampa e libreria e poi quello della Stamperia reale; quest’ultima, istituita per diramare i bollettini delle leggi e altri documenti ufficiali, finì sul lungo periodo per influenzare diversi aspetti della vita scientifica e culturale del nuovo Stato, attraverso la stampa di opere dei maggiori intellettuali dell’epoca. La Stamperia si rivelò presto sia come il mezzo migliore per inserirsi nel tradizionale mondo degli stampatori milanesi, sia come uno dei più efficaci strumenti culturali del regime napoleonico.
