Abstract

The archaeological investigations and related studies conducted in recent years in Lombardy (Italy), and above all in its capital, have brought to light important data relating to mosaic floor decorations, especially from the Roman era. A specific focus dedicated to the houses of Mediolanum has made it possible to systematically address the construction techniques, the floor and wall decoration, the function of the spaces and the chronology. The possibility of accessing unpublished materials from the excavations and the consequent reflection based on the set of data have proved to be decisive factors in improving the understanding of the flooring techniques used, in particular with regard to cementitious and sectilia
