Based on the insights that Realino Marra offers in the monograph L’eredità di Max Weber. Cultura, diritto e realtà, this article aims to present some considerations on Max Weber’s contribution to the analysis of custom [Sitte]. In particular, two aspects of Weber’s analysis of the phenomenon of custom will be presented, namely custom as habitual behavior and as a rule. Emphasis will be placed on how Weber acknowledges the empirical validity of rules of custom while denying its ideal validity.
