This paper examines Jacob Mantino’s Latin translation of Averroes’ commentary on Aristotle’s De partibus animalium, focusing on Mantino’s method, the relationship with previous translations, and the use of the Hebrew source. Through a detailed textual analysis, the study demonstrates that Mantino had direct access to the Hebrew source and that he was not merely stylistically revising Eliah del Medigo’s earlier translation. Furthermore, the paper investigates the stylistic revisions Mantino’s work underwent before its 1521 printed edition, highlighting the distinct nature of these revisions compared to the differences between Mantino’s and del Medigo’s translations. The findings contribute to a nuanced understanding of Mantino’s role as a translator and the broader context of Averroism during the Renaissance.

Abstract
The findings contribute to a nuanced understanding of Mantino’s role as a translator and the broader context of Averroism during the Renaissance.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
