At the turn of the 20th century, Moisé Amar, in dual roles as lawyer and lecturer, made an indisputable contribution to the study of unfair competition as part of the emergent field of industrial law. During this period, judges, lawyers and practitioners across Europe were confronted with the numerous forms that unfair competition could take. Amar undertook a meticulous reconstruction of the issue from case law, methodically selecting and classifying court decisions. He thereby introduced a degree of clarity to a subject which had previously been lacking. Drawing on French legal tradition and German legal thought, Amar's works reflected the European and transnational dimension of these issues. Consequently, his contribution as a compiler was both innovative and instrumental in the formulation of legal reforms.
