Elaborazione di un sistema di schedatura dati e sviluppo di un web GIS per la consultazione dei dati archeologici: il caso di Montescudaio in Val di Cecina (PI)

The excavation of the monastery of “S.Maria di Montescudaio” (Montescudaio, Pisa, Tuscany) gave us the chanche to start a pilot project to develop, improve and test an Open Source system for the archaeological record management. Part of the project was focused on the improvement of a specific recording sheet for human skeletons, (in other words, a “taphonomic recording sheet”). The data entry process was obtained writing an user friendly gui in PHP and connecting it to the PostgreSQL database. Addittionally GRASS GIS was used to geographically manage the informations and for spatial analysis. OpenJUMP and QGIS were used for basic operation (e.g. Vector drawing) and the results were saved in a Postgis table. A WebGis was developed using MapServer in combination with the graphic front-end P.Mapper.

Lo scavo del monastero di S. Maria di Montescudaio ha dato la possibilità di poter sviluppare e testare un sistema per la schedatura dei dati archeologici totalmente open source. Le caratteristiche del sito hanno reso necessaria un’adeguata schedatura dei reperti scheletrici, con la creazione di una scheda tafonomica. I dati raccolti sono stati elaborati in un GIS; per la creazione e la visualizzazione degli shape sono stati usati Open Jump e Qgis, entrambi appoggiandosi all’estensione spaziale di Postgres: Postgis; per le analisi è stato usato Grass. Il Web Gis ha sfruttato come motore Mapserver e P.Mapper come front-end.
