At the crossroads between the historical vicissitudes of the Second World War and the itineraries of the Spanish Republican exile of 1939, one of the intellectuals who was best able to highlight the contradictions between the democratic values of anti-fascist matrix and the praxis of the Western liberal powers was Max Aub. This article sets out to analyse Aub's representation of the French and North African concentration camps as a space where these antinomies reach their maximum level of problematicity, particularly in the short story “Yo no invento nada” included in the collection No son cuentos (1944).

Abstract

At the crossroads between the historical vicissitudes of the Second World War and the itineraries of the Spanish Republican exile of 1939, one of the intellectuals who was best able to highlight the contradictions between the democratic values of anti-fascist matrix and the praxis of the Western liberal powers was Max Aub. This article sets out to analyse Aub's representation of the French and North African concentration camps as a space where these antinomies reach their maximum level of problematicity, particularly in the short story “Yo no invento nada” included in the collection No son cuentos (1944).
En la encrucijada entre los avatares históricos de la Segunda Guerra Mundial y los itinerarios del exilio republicano español de 1939, uno de los intelectuales que mejor supo evidenciar las contradicciones entre el sistema de valores democráticos de matriz antifascista y la praxis de las potencias liberales occidentales fue Max Aub. El artículo se propone analizar la representación de la realidad concentracionaria francesa y norafricana realizada por Aub en tanto que espacio –factual y discursivo– donde dichas antinomias alcanzan su máximo nivel de problematicidad, particularmente, en el relato “Yo no invento nada” incluido en la colección No son cuentos (1944).
