Meme o non meme? : Contaminazioni tra evoluzionismo, visual history e medievistica

This volume intends to bring the contribution of medieval studies to an interdisciplinary reflection on memetics in the era of the so-called ‘third wave’ of communication: while the information sciences, semiotics, art history, sociology, philosophy and political science have long been reflecting on the communicative developments of memes, the community of medievalist historians, especially the Italian ones, has long remained indifferent. The memetic phenomenon is addressed by proposing observations that can describe its various facets, past and present, while at the same time attempting to explore its critical potential from a historical perspective. The aim of the reflections is to identify memes that are intertwined with history and the possible changes to the profession of the historian resulting from their communicative and didactic use.

Il volume intende apportare il contributo della medievistica a una riflessione interdisciplinare sulla memetica nell’era della cosiddetta “terza ondata” della comunicazione: mentre le scienze dell’informazione, la semiotica, la storia dell’arte, la sociologia, la filosofia e la politologia riflettono da tempo sugli sviluppi comunicativi dei memi, la comunità degli storici medievisti, in particolar modo italiani, è rimasta a lungo indifferente. Il fenomeno memetico viene affrontato proponendo osservazioni in grado di descriverne le varie sfaccettature, passate e presenti, e cercando allo stesso tempo di esplorarne il potenziale critico sotto il rispetto storico. Obiettivo delle riflessioni è individuare i memi che si intrecciano con la storia e gli eventuali cambiamenti al mestiere di storico derivanti da un loro uso comunicativo e didattico.
