88 children aging between 4 and 12 years in the mixed dentition stage were included in three experimental groups. The first one used a pre-orthodontic Trainer appliance, the second one a Bionator appliance and the third one a Frankel device. Were assessed: malocclusion type, vertical dental skeletal dimension, myofunctional habits as tongue thrusting, thumb and lipsucking, nose and mouth breathing, interposition of tongue and lips between dental arches, atypical and reverse swallowing, bruxism, dental crowding, TMJ symptoms and mentalis, masseter and anterior temporalis muscle activity through electromyography. The results showed that these appliances, were able to eliminate the environment aethiological factors, both genetic and epigenetic, that oppose to eugnatic development. Unlike deep-bite, open-bite cases in the dynamic stage of the growth must have a corrective approach much earlier to resolve vertical discrepancies.
